Listening Deeper: The AI Stethoscope Reimagined - Lapsi Health
featuring Jhonatan Bringas Dimitriades, MD (CEO of Lapsi Health)
What if the stethoscope, one of medicine's oldest tools, could also document your notes, analyze your patient's voice, and monitor a newborn in the NICU around the clock?
Our latest episode features Dr. Jhonatan Bringas Dimitriades, co-founder and CEO of Lapsi Health, a physician born in Peru, medically trained in Cuba, and now building the future of clinical AI out of the Netherlands. His story is one of relentless risk-taking: at 14, he cold-approached a Nobel Prize winner backstage and turned it into a 26-year mentorship. That same instinct drives everything he builds today.
Together with his wife and co-founder Dr. Diana Vvan Stijn, a former Dutch national synchronized swimmer turned pediatric cardiologist, Jhonatan is building Keikku, an FDA Class II cleared device that combines a digital stethoscope, an ambient scribing microphone, and soon, voice biomarker analysis into a single wearable platform. The goal is to do for clinical AI what the iPhone did for consumer tech: converge fragmented tools into one seamless experience.
Lapsi Health achieved all of this with less than $6 million raised, navigating hundreds of investor rejections along the way, because no one wants to fund hardware.
Jhonatan's message to the medical innovation community is direct: don't just keep tweaking scribing software. The real value of a consultation lies in combining what you hear from your patient verbally with what you hear physiologically, and AI needs to bridge both.
This episode is a must-listen for anyone interested in clinical AI, medical hardware, diagnostic innovation, or building category-defining companies against the odds.
